YouTube. Students can certainly collaborate to create videos and upload them to YouTube. But that’s not the only way to use it for collaborative learning. Students can collaborate on playlists, for example, selecting videos that represent a certain character in history, depict the location you’re studying, or teach skills you want them to learn. Just share the playlist using the “Share” or “Collaborate” option. Students can add videos and even update the title and description of the playlist. Consider creating an editable online document (for example, with Google Docs or Word Online) where students can write which video they added and why it was a good addition. Then include a link to that document in the description of the playlist so students can access it easily.

Videos. Digital collaboration is much more than text. Flipgrid (flipgrid.com) is an app that lets students record short videos in response to a topic or question posed to the class. Students record videos that can be seen by their classmates. They can then leave video replies, engaging one another in further video conversation. The topics and grids (where topics live) can be shared far and wide, so that anyone around the world can participate in your discussion. Go to resources.flipgrid.com for helpful guides for teachers and students to get started.
